The wheel of the year keeps turning, and in Chinese Medicine, we are now in the season of late summer, which corresponds with the Earth element. We transition from the yang of summer to the yin of winter, as the afternoon light becomes a little more golden.
The five elements of Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood form th
e foundation for understanding the human body and it’s interactions with nature.
This is a time of abundance, harvest, and nourishment. To nourish others, we first need to nourish ourselves.
The gifts of the Earth element include feeling calm, centered, and stable. The challenges may involve excessive worry, overthinking, or digestive issues.
To support the Earth element, practice mindful eating—be present, slow down, and chew well. Focus on warm meals with root vegetables, and avoid cold and raw foods. Spend time in nature to ground and reconnect, trusting the stability of the earth beneath your feet.
Consider acupuncture to support these processes. I am now working from my beautiful new room right in the middle of Great Malvern and would love to hear from you.
