Mental Health Awareness Week 2023
Not only does a cancer diagnosis take its toll on the body physically, it can also have a huge impact on mental and emotional well-being.
It is becoming more widely known that acupuncture can help moderate the physical symptoms and side effects from their medical treatment, but more and more people are seeking acupuncture to support their mental and emotional well-being. The holistic nature of acupuncture looks at the person as a whole, not just their physical symptoms.
A cancer diagnosis can be shocking. It can shake a person to their core, turn their world upside down, and bring uncertainty about the future. They may be terrified, anxious, become depressed or have difficulty sleeping. It’s ok to feel these emotions, it’s what makes us human. The problem arises when these feelings become troublesome or destructive. It’s not always about getting rid of the emotion but about managing it, and coping with it in our lives.
“The acupuncture with Emma has been amazing. I feel like a new person. I never thought I’d feel this well again.”
Acupuncture can play a large part in supporting people through this difficult time by building resilience, improving sleep, reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation. My own clinical practice, and an increasing body of quality research evidence, shows that acupuncture can be an effective treatment for these conditions.
